Hello! My name is Carol Duncan and I’m the founder of Lost Newcastle.
I love this amazing region of Newcastle and the Hunter and I’ve made it a bit of a mission over many years now to try to encourage that same love in others.
Although not born in Newcastle, I moved here in 1993 to take up a breakfast radio role with the then X107 (formerly the legendary 2NX) and now known as HIT106. From there I moved to NEWFM for a few years indulging my love of pop and rock music and finally settled into ABC Newcastle for many years
I began a weekly feature on my radio program called Local Treasures to share some of Newcastle’s great stories with listeners. Local Treasures could include buildings like the Victoria Theatre or Carrington Pump House, people like the wife of Australia’s first Prime Minister, interesting objects and even myths (or are they)?
I was elected to the Council of City Newcastle in 2017 and in that role I aim to continue working with the community, something I’ve loved since arriving here in 1993. But that’s another story.
THIS story is about Newcastle, the valley, the lake, the bay. And it’s about Novocastrians, as told by Novocastrians.
And it has been a labour of love.
