I attended Belmont North Public School, I started kindergarten in 1956. If anyone has photos (or stories) of the school in the 50’s and early 60’s I would love to see them posted.
    Regards

Sorry Patricia, your comment not quite right; our memories can become clouded as we age.
The girl on the right of the picture behind the girl in white is Kathy Marker.
The girl with the ball is me, Betty (nee Black).
I think the girl behind me is Christine.
The girl behind Lorraine is Diane Bullen.
The school opened for students in 1953.
The photo was taken in 1954 – after our mothers had made the sports uniforms (God love them, they were not easy but worth the effort) just before the official opening of the school in 1954.

Such gorgeous uniforms, probably made at home like Mummy’s uniform’s at St. Joseph’s, Belmont. I wonder why no one has such fabulous uniforms anymore – I think it’s important for kids to learn how to dress well!

Oh dear, I am afraid that some memories are addled by time, or misdirection. Patricia, do you think I (and my mother, my sisters and Belmont North schoolmates) do not recognise myself? I do agree that there was a small likeness between Susan Knee and myself at one stage of our growth. In 1954 I guess you were maybe 7; I was 10. Confirmation as to just who is holding the ball may be obtained from Lorraine Hiles. Just setting the record straight.
